The original Green Dot symbol is used on a countless number of products to indicate that a payment has been made by the company or brand towards recycling efforts. Due to its use of arrows (similar to the recycle symbol) it has largely been misunderstood by the public to mean that the package itself is recyclable. Agreeing entirely with notion that the original Green Dot symbol is misleading in this way, we decided to take part in the brief created by Two Degrees Creative and The Brand Identity to reimagine the Green Dot. Our submission took a minimal design approach to bring back the original meaning of the symbol which is that a payment has been made to recycling efforts and the institution using the symbol has now joined a pool of other institutions who have done the same - a group of smaller green dots together making one large green dot, reflecting unity and common purpose.
